Making The Decsion
Flying. It is what I love to do and always have. My eyesight denied me the chance of being a military aviator. I had given up on the idea of being a professional pilot for years. Now my life is different, the world is different and the airline industry is rapidly evolving. For me, that's a good thing.
I have decided to become a career pilot. What does that mean? Ideally it means flying for a living. What does it probably mean? Most likely it will involve working my hind end off for near poverty wages and making sacrifices for at least the next 5 years. Will it be worth it? Here is my answer: I want a career that makes me look forward to each and every day. I have several friends that are pilots and not one of them is dissatisfied with their place in life.
I have been pondering this for 15 years, seriously researching the feasibility for the last 6 months and looking at schools for the last 3 months. I am about the make the jump and I want to share my experience with others who might be interested in a becoming a career pilot.
Over the next year, I'll try the best I can to post about my training, flight experiences, the people and meet and the places I go. Hopefully it will have a happy ending. The expense of education and the additional sacrifices required of me and, more importantly, my family sys clearly that failure is not an option.
So here I go into the wild blue yonder (I know, it's corny). Maybe my experiences will help someone else take a chance and go for it. We only get one chance at life so it's time to stop dreaming and start DOING!
